Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia are facing prolonged drought and as a result their nutrition situation has deteriorated to serious levels. They are experiencing chronic food insecurity and lack of access to safe drinking water for both communities and livestock.
We invite you to please pray and ask God to:
  • Break this drought so that the rains will come and food will grow for the millions affected in these nations.
  • Secure the delivery of aid to where it is needed and that it is not diverted or politicised, especially in northeastern Somalia.
  • Provide World Vision and other responders adequate funding and other resources to respond to the needs. Pray specifically that $1.2 million USD is raised for the needed intervention.
  • Care for and protect World Vision’s and other organisations’ staff as they work long hours to meet these needs.
  • Pour out grace upon the affected households, including many World Vision sponsored children in Kenya.
Middle East
Please pray for:
  • Peaceful transition in the change of governments for the nations of the Middle East.
  • Discerning and wise legal leadership as constitutions are developed and amended.
  • Youth struggling with unemployment and the many poor Muslims and Christians in these nations who are unable to access work, health and educational opportunities.
  • Safety of the body of Christ and the church in the Middle East.
  • orld Vision assessment teams as they look at Egypt, Jerusalem, West Bank, Gaza, Jordan and Lebanon in this fragile and volatile context.
  • Supplies that need to get to people during this time and that the infrastructure of roads and clinics continues to be operational.
  1. LIBYA: The premier denounced a “plot” to turn his country into a terrorist base, as anti-regime protests reached the capital and world powers slammed an iron-fisted crackdown said to have cost hundreds of lives.
  2. IRAN: A massive police deployment in Tehran prevented large-scale protests from erupting, although Iranian opposition websites reported stray clashes and officials said the capital remained calm.
  3. BAHRAIN: Bahrain’s Sunni Muslim ruling family came under increased pressure to open in-depth talks with the Shiite-led opposition, as protesters erected more tents on the capital’s Pearl Square and unions called off a strike.
  4. MOROCCO: Thousands staged rallies in Moroccan cities demanding political reform and limits on the powers of King Mohammed VI, with protesters shouting “the people want change.”
  5. KUWAIT: Hundreds of stateless Arabs demonstrated for the third day running to press for basic rights and citizenship of the oil-rich Gulf state, and Human Rights Watch called for the release of dozens detained on Friday.
  6. YEMEN: Hundreds of students demonstrated on the eighth straight day of anti-regime protests in Sanaa, while police shot dead a protester in south Yemen and the opposition vowed to join protests.
  7. EGYPT: Three police officers in Alexandria face questioning over the shooting of protesters in the early days of the Egyptian uprising, as banks reopened and workers at Egypt’s largest factory ended a strike.
  8. TUNISIA: Tunisia’s interim government asked Saudi Arabia to extradite deposed strongman Zine El Abidine Ben Ali as it faced a second day of protests on the streets of Tunis, demanding its resignation.
  9. DJIBOUTI: Djibouti authorities have “provisionally released” three top opposition leaders briefly detained after unprecedented protests demanding regime change, the state prosecutor said.
  10. IRAQ: At least eight people, four police and four civilians, were reported wounded when clashes erupted during a rally in the Iraqi Kurdish city of Sulaimaniyah.

Pray for the families who have had loved ones killed. Pray for mercy, justice and grace to permeate this current instability.
  • HEART HUNGER: Pray for real heart hunger in every individual throughout the Arab World, particularly among those with the least access to the gospel, that they would long to know the Truth and be set free. Pray they find true freedom in Jesus. Pray for a restraining of extremist who seek to kill and destroy. Pray for the supply infrastructure of food and water can be maintained in this turbulence.

Pray for protection for our sisters and brothers as they continue to be light and salt in these difficult environments. Make them a sweet aroma for Christ.
  • MODELS: Just as Jesus became flesh and dwelt among us so that we could know God, pray for believers and World Vision staff who are willing to live incarnational lives among these groups, no matter what the challenges may be.
  • STUDENTS: Young people are often seeking answers for deep questions of life. Pray that God directs them to those who can give them the Answer. Pray that the children will be protected from hatred, give them a yearning and hope of peace in these lands.

We invite you to please pray for:
  • Eastern DRC which remains a Category III with a level 2 response. Swaziland is a Category II with a level 2 response, while Zimbabwe remains a Category III with a level 2 response.
  • 2 million people affected by the continual conflict in DRC (Congo) and the many women and children being sexually assaulted and then impacted by HIV/AIDS. Pray for law and order and justice to bear on those who have wronged these precious ones of God. Pray for healing and recovery from this trauma.
  • Swaziland and it’s food crisis, exacerbated by current floods threatening a drop in crop output. These factors coupled with an HIV/AIDS prevalence at 26% presents a challenging scenario compounded by an increase in reported rape cases especially on children.

As one World Vision staff member shared, “I want to see our brothers and sisters of the two countries embrace each other and not to fight for serving political purpose which is not God’s desire.”

Thank you for upholding these parts of the world before our Lord and Maker, the author and perfecter of our faith in God’s Grace and Jesus Name. Let it be so. Amen

Child Protection Compact Act (CPCA)  Update
The Craziness Begins!
An update on 2011 legislation fighting child slavery
By Jesse Eaves, Policy Advisor for Child Protection

"It has only been a few weeks since the 111th Congress came to a close and the 112th Congress began—but what a difference a few weeks makes. The fight against slavery continues, and we have a huge role to play.

Over the course of the past year, thousands of you called, wrote, and met face-to-face with your elected leaders. As a result of that united voice, the Child Protection Compact Act (CPCA) came within an inch of becoming a law until time ran out.

You’ll recall that I let you know that in this new Congress, the centerpiece of all U.S. anti-human trafficking law (the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act, or TVPRA) was up for renewal. Laws like the CPCA do not work without the framework of the TVPRA. Since we want to be sure that a strong and robust TVPRA becomes law, we’ve been working hard to ask your elected leaders to include the provisions of the CPCA into the larger human trafficking bill.

However, something happened last week that caught us off guard. As the new Senate came into session, right out of the gate, your leaders did something surprising. On the first day of legislating, the original sponsors of the bill—Senator Barbara Boxer of California, Richard Burr of North Carolina, and Ben Cardin of Maryland—reintroduced the CPCA. On top of that, they brought on board a new sponsor: Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts. The message they are sending is clear – “WE HEAR YOU!”

This reintroduction of the CPCA is more symbolic than anything. It means that your voices were heard and your leaders have not forgotten you. This is a way for them to mark the importance of the CPCA provisions as we move forward with the process of advocating for the new TVPRA. In the most likely scenario, the CPCA will simply get folded into the TVPRA—and then we will go to town advocating for the passage of the TVPRA.

As we prepare to move forward, take a second and pat yourselves on the back for making your voices heard. A big salute goes out to Women of Vision in California and North Carolina who tirelessly hounded their Senators to lead the way on this bill. The silent cries of enslaved children around the world will be silent no longer as you stand up next to them and seek justice on their behalf.

We’ll be updating you as soon as we know when the TVPRA will be officially introduced. Once that happens, let’s challenge ourselves to make our voices louder and more powerful than ever. It’s going to be hard. Anyone who watches the news or reads the Internet knows that. But with thousands of voices and God on our side, justice and freedom will prevail.

I leave you with the words of Molly Baker, an amazing advocate and student at the University of Delaware. She recently wrote: 'After the hard news that the CPCA did not pass, I came upon Habbakuk 1:2-4 in which Habbakuk cries out to God in frustration saying, ‘How long, LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save? Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds. Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.’ My heart has at times echoed the same cries and questions of why God would allow so much injustice in our world. However, God answers Habbakuk's cry and ours as well, as in Habakkuk 2:4 he replies, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’ What we SEE is injustice, wrongdoing, and a bill that has not passed. BUT God calls us to live by faith. As Hebrews 11:1 says, ‘Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do NOT see.’”

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the Name of Jesus praising You for opportunities that You give us through World Vision and Women of Vision to make a difference around the world in the lives of poor and marginalized children and women. Like Habbakuk we cry out to you about the injustices in our world. We are disappointed that the Child Protection Compact Act (CPCA) did not pass in the 111th Congress.

We praise You for World Vision and Women of Vision and the information and education provided to us so that we could be a voice for the voiceless in Washington DC and in our own State of Washington against slavery this past year. Lord we know that strongholds do not topple easily, yet we believe in faith that nothing is impossible for You. Lord we ask that you would stir our hearts again and again and that we would take whatever action necessary to be used by You in this fight against slavery in the world and in America. Give us the information that we need and empower us with courage to call, communicate with and go to those in authority who decide our laws.

We praise You in advance that the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA) will be renewed and that the CPCA will be enfolded into this larger human trafficking bill. Thank you that Senator Barbara Boxer of California, Richard Burr of North Carolina, and Ben Cardin of Maryland reintroduced the CPCA along with Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts. Thank you for their message of encouragement to us that we have been heard. Let this action by these Senators be the spark that ignites passion within our Congress to pass the TVPRA!

Thank you for Jesse and his team. Bless them in all ways as they take a stand daily in this battle. Guard them and protect their families, their health, their finances and their lives as they stand firm on the front lines. Encourage them to not grow weary in well doing. Give them hope in Your renewed direction for this cause.

Lord, we know that without You we can do nothing. We surrender our paltry efforts at the foot of the cross and place them in Your Hands and ask that you multiply our efforts to create a mighty army. Mobilize us at the perfect moment, the optimum time in our present history to impact and put a stop to human trafficking in this generation. Let it be so, Lord! Amen!

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you in the matchless Name of Jesus and bow down asking you to supernaturally come and show Yourself strong on behalf of our sister and friend, Kathy.  Surround her with your comfort.  Where there is uncertainty bring peace that passes human understanding, where there is sorrow bring Your healing balm, where there is pain bring forbearance by your grace. Today will be a hard day for Kathy and her family, but you promise us that nothing is too difficult for You.  Be her all in all today as she goes through the motions in  her numbness. Guide her as she puts one step in front of the other and continues on.  Thank you for her children who will help her and be there for her and for her family and Ron's family who will surround her with "togetherness" so she sees that she is not alone.  Give her a new understanding of Your Love today and in the days ahead.

We pray for Ron and Kathy's family members that you would comfort and encourage their hearts today.  If there are those who do not know you as their Savior, Jesus, we pray that today will be the day of their salvation. For those who do know You, we pray that Your peace and Love would embrace them today and every day.

We pray that this service today will be a celebration of Ron's life and that those who don't know You will come to know You through what they hear and see in the Aspen Chapel.  Soften hearts to Your Good News and we thank You that at least one person will come to know You through this service. Lord, You are the Giver of Life through Jesus. Thank you that we all have hope and know that when our spirits leave our body that we are present with You.  We celebrate Ron's life today and thank you for him and for the testimony of his life here on earth.

We love You Jesus. In Your Name we pray. Amen
